Letter: Letter was right; more study needed on global warming (Printed Nov. 16, 2007)
Editor:
Three cheers for Arthur Thoms! He is a brave man to take the position he did in the Nov. 9 Letters to the Editor page. He is right, you know. The government should be spending time and energy in meaningful, reasoned, fair and honest discussions with the scientists who are skeptical of Al Gore – and who say that the facts do not support a panic “sky-is-falling” (or sea-is rising 19 feet), “settled science” finding on global warming.
It would prevent enormous expenditures of money on probably un-needed preventive projects. There are many, many books by these respected scientists, many of whom are being bullied and losing their positions or status in their professions. They should have their say.
History is full of warnings of imminent catastrophes that had enormous followings (and reviled skeptics) – but never happened.
My advice to Mr Thoms: you are wise to get out of town; do not have your news forwarded; they are going to be mean to you! The concerned scientists who have spoken out can tell you all about the “treatment” they are receiving.
Thanks again, Mr Thoms; have a restful stay in Florida.
