Barnfather wins Great Person (Printed Jan. 4, 2008)

   Eva Barnfather, a resident of Rivers Edge Drive in Kennebunk was nominated the Great Person Award for Kennebunk last week.
   “I really can’t believe it,” Barnfather said. “When I saw I had been nominated I told my friends I didn’t want to be humiliated by not getting any votes. I just can’t believe I won.”
   Ginny Allen, a Sea Road resident in Kennebunk, nominated Barnfather by stating she “has a sprite step and spirit and a warm smile which welcomes, includes and embraces everyone she meets young and old and in between.”
   Allen said she thought I was fantastic Barnfather was nominated for the award.
   “Eva has only lived here a little less than 10 years, but she got herself meshed and involved in everything,” Allen said in a Dec. 31 phone interview. “To see a women that full of enthusiasm, I really think is wonderful.”
   Allen said Barnfather has been involved in a lot of community events including the operations of the community harvest meals at St. Martha Church in Kennebunk.
   “She crosses the borders of age and is able to reach out to everybody,” Allen said. “She’s someone who is always going to stand up for her principles.”
   Barnfather received 125 votes, while runner-up Nancy Meehan of Kennebunk received 114.
