“We take all threats very seriously, especially in this day and age,” said Lieutenant Robert F. Mackenzie of the Kennebunk Police Department following the Jan. 9 arrest of Jeffrey Stevens Jr. 19, of Lyman in pursuant of a threat he made to Kennebunk High School.
On Jan. 8 an unnamed student conveyed the threats Stevens had made to the main office at Kennebunk High School, who then immediately notified the police. Because of an ongoing investigation by the Kennebunk Police Department the details of the threats are classified.
“The threats that he made rose to the level of terrorizing, a judge agreed and signed the warrant for Stevens’ arrest,” Mackenzie said.
Stevens was arrested in his home at 4 a.m. Jan. 9, not 24 hours after he made the threats. He was then taken to York County Jail. Stevens was released that day after paying a $1,000 bail.
He was released on numerous conditions: Stevens is not allowed to set foot in the town of Kennebunk, he must stay 500 feet away from any school and in coordination with typical bail conditions he must not posses alcohol or drugs, must notify the police immediately if he changes addresses, must wave extradition rights and will be subject to random searches of his residence.
He is scheduled to appear in Biddeford District Court March 4 and is being charged with terrorizing.
