Letter: Vote Al Searles for K’bunk selectman Feb. 21 (Printed Feb. 1, 2008)

Editor:
Please let me tell you about the Al Searles I know and why I think he should be elected selectman Feb. 21. Al is bright, personable, inquisitive, fair and trustworthy. He has spent and continues to spend countless hours at town hall, learning and leading. Al has been a member of the budget board for a number of years and also is a member of the new charter commission. He has made a point of learning everything he can about the workings of our town government, attends almost every selectman meeting, is up-to-date on MSAD 71 negotiations, and he knows the Kennebunk Town Charter backwards and forwards.
What Al doesn`t know, he makes it a point to find out. Al doesn`t just serve on the budget board and charter commission, he also offers innovative suggestions. Al listens, he understands the needs of our town, he is on the side of the taxpayers, he is respectful and is not indebted to anyone at town hall. Al Searles is ready to serve as a selectman on day one, Feb. 21.  Please vote!

Albert Searles is my own personal choice for Kennebunk's next selectman, as well.

He knows the town and school budgets inside and out, and has attended selectmen's meetings for over 6 years. He has served on the town budget board for five years, and is also on the town charter commission.

He understands that the town does need money to operate well, and continue delivering the excellent level of services that Kennebunk residents have come to expect.

However, he also knows the difference between a 'WANT' and a 'NEED,' something Kennebunk voters are going to be increasingly faced with in the coming years.

I believe that Al Searles will represent a balanced viewpoint between the need for frugality where possible, and the need for spending when commendable and necessary.

He is my personal choice to help the Kennebunk Board of Selectmen pursue their quest for economic excellence.

    Sincerely,
