Letter: Let me tell you why I’m running for Kennebunk selectman (Printed Feb. 8, 2008)
Editor:
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and your readers. I’m Patrick Gregorich, running for the position of selectman left vacant by the resignation of June Huston. A special election will be held Feb. 21. Before I ask for your vote, I’d like to tell you why I believe I am qualified for the position and why I’ve chosen to run.
When I moved to Kennebunk 12 years ago, I knew immediately that I would never want to leave this wonderful community. Since then, I have benefited in many ways, and now it is time for me to give back to my community. I’ll be honest; I have never held a position on the board of selectman, nor run for selectman. I’m a new face, with new energy and fresh ideas – a new voice for Kennebunk. And that, I believe, is one of my key strengths. It will allow me to remain independent and represent the interests of Kennebunk residents above all else.
As I step into the role of selectman, my agenda is simple. I will listen carefully to the citizens of Kennebunk, respect your opinions and strive to provide a balanced viewpoint. In my current position as vice president of a local development company, I am responsible for evaluating land and corporate acquisitions, budgeting and scheduling real estate development projects, and managing all engineering and architectural design requirements and state/municipal entitlements. In the position of selectman, I pledge to draw upon my extensive business skills and experience in order to benefit the town in any way I can. I will work closely with the economic development committee to formulate new ways to entice businesses to locate in Kennebunk, while strengthening the support for the town’s existing businesses. Cultivating a favorable environment for larger businesses to make their homes here will generate a new source of tax dollars. This, in turn, will help reduce the burden on local citizens and allow us to maintain the outstanding services we currently enjoy.
I believe in the future of this community and hope that you will support me on Feb. 21. But regardless of whom you may choose to support, please be sure to vote. This is a critical election for the future of our community. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to the possibility of serving you as selectman. If you have any questions, please email me at PatrickforSelectman@gmail.com.
