Letter: Commenting on Wise’s letter in last week’s Post (Printed Feb. 15, 2008)
Editor:
In deference to Jason Wise’s admonishment last week for my failure in providing source references, I offer a mea culpa. The summary document entitled Environmental Effects of Increased Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide can be located at www.oism.org. The paper is authored by Drs. Arthur B. and Noah E. Robinson. Their credentials are listed on the cited website. The paper was authored in 2007 and contains more than 132 footnotes to a very diverse and current listing of reference and research material.
The claim made by Mr. Wise that “99 percent of scientists disagree” that global warming isn’t caused by human influences has me stumped. While it may not be exclusive to scientists per se, more than 19,000 academics, scientists and researchers among others have thus far signed on to the Global Warming Petition Project rejecting the theoretical basis of the Kyoto Treaty as flawed. A complete listing of the signors can be found at the website cited earlier. The project is led by Frederick Seitz, Past President, National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A. and President Emeritus, Rockefeller University.
Thank you to the Kennebunk Post for the opportunity to show folks that there is factual research and scores of credible scientists opposed to the popular view on the cause of climate change. The last few weeks of letters have proven quite interesting on this topic and one thing remains clear throughout. There is considerable disagreement on the subject and not just from the confines of Kennebunk as I hope has been pointed out. It’s hoped that folks will gain a thorough understanding of the various points of view on their own though rather than submit to a popular notion and political agenda.
