Faith Baptist Pastor Bernard Antonis and his wife Carolyn found Jesus together at 9:50 p.m. June 22, 1974, and have been following the word of the Bible ever since. The pair has founded the Faith In Action prayer and Bible study ministry, which has been active at the Riverridge Rehabilitation Center in Kennebunk for nearly a year.
“Faith is preventative medicine for life,” Carolyn Antonis said.
Bernard Antonis originally worked in Kennebunk installing suspended acoustical ceilings for his company Alpha and Omega Acoustics in Lyman.
“I was working 60 to 80 hours a week, in addition to my ministry,” he said, and followed what he believed to be the Lord’s word by moving out of Kennebunk.
The Antonis’ are glad to be returning to Maine after spending 10 years in Massachusetts, where they learned to share their faith with a wide variety of different cultures and creeds, Carolyn Antonis said.
“When you know you’ve done all you can do, you move on,” she said.
Bernard Antonis said he is preaching to a new generation, as he is now ministering to the grandchildren of his original ministry participants. The couple has high hopes for their ministry, which will begin conducting services at 2 p.m., March 2 in the Dorothy Stevens Community Center on Thompson Road in West Kennebunk.
“We really don’t have any idea how many people will attend,” Bernard Antonis said. “We’re kind of excited about the possibilities.”
The Dorothy Stevens Community Center will open its doors to the Antonis’ ministry every Sunday for three months following the first service. Carolyn Antonis said while it is a good start, they would eventually like to find a more permanent location.
“We’d love to have a building,” said Bernard Antonis, who believes their faithfulness will be rewarded. “It wouldn’t surprise me if someone donated a place for us.”
For more information on how to attend or donate, call the Antonis’ 604-4290 or email them bernardcarolyn7@aol.com.
“Anybody and everyone will be welcome,” Pastor Antonis said. “The Bible is all-inclusive; everybody is somebody.”
