Letter: Letter to the editor was ‘condescending liberal diatribe’ (Printed Feb. 22, 2008)
Editor:
Adam Marletta begins his letter to the Post on Feb. 15with “I rarely read the Kennebunk Post”…. After wasting two minutes reading his condescending liberal diatribe, I was left wondering if he ever reads anything other than postings at ‘MoveOn.org’.
I don’t claim to have the apparent immense knowledge of climate change that the disciples of the “Church of Al Gore” and the loud “We hate Bush” crowd have, but I do have a Ph.D in Neuroscience and experience with research, the media and how information is spread. Personally, I am not knowledgeable enough about meteorology to write letters to the paper stating how I “know” that we are definitely experiencing global warming and that further scientific debate is not needed, as the Gore apostles are. They may be right, and I would personally rather err on the side of caution and move forward with greater controls on carbon dioxide emission – how could that possibly hurt in the long run?
Marletta, however, makes it perfectly clear that his ‘extensive’ understanding of climate change comes much more from his political base than his knowledge base when he makes the incredibly arrogant statement that conservative authors and pundits that disagree with his view on the matter can be dismissed because “many of these are the same people that do not believe in evolution either.” The huge gaps in the fossil record aside that remains an ‘Inconvenient Truth’ for the evolution argument, this tremendously insulting statement to countless millions of decent people who believe in a God or Creator demonstrates such shallow thinking on his part that it basically renders null and void every statement made in his letter. I even question why as I end this letter, that I wasted my time writing a rebuttal to point out the obvious.
