Letter: What can you do? Join Sat.’s auction (Printed April 11, 2008)
Editor:
I would like to extend my thanks to all of you in York County who helped kick off our Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. April is Child Abuse Prevention month and our staff at the council, the students and teachers in the area, and members of the Maine State Police came together in a public appeal to stop the abuse of children. They are to all be applauded for their service.
Many folks ask me, “What can I do to help?” That answer is easy. This Saturday, April 12, we will host a fabulous, fun auction to benefit the programs offered by the Child Abuse Prevention Council in York County. Our programs are available in every school in the county.
Come to the Nonantum Resort on Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport. We will auction off many spectacular prizes and lots of gift certificates to your favorite restaurants and shops in the area. It’s a win-win situation. Every dollar you spend goes directly to prevent abuse of kids, you will have a fun evening, and walk away with wonderful gifts.
I have six adult children and soon to be 12 grandchildren. I try to buy as many gifts as I can at this auction. All of my family ends up with great presents for their birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. I also give myself a few treats. My husband and I have favorite restaurants and shops in the area and since I’m going to be spending money anyway, it makes sense to give those funds to a very worthwhile cause.
Again, my thanks to all of you who have generously supported the council in the past year.
See you on Saturday at the Nonantum.
Joan Dawson, President, CAPC
