At the polls: Arundel Selectmen (June 6, 2008)
Thomas Danylik
Candidate’s statement:
“During the time that I have been a member of the board of selectmen for the town of Arundel, I have witnessed enormous growth in our town, such that we have progressed (of necessity) from a part time building inspector, when I was first elected to the board, to now having full time code enforcement, a town planner, in house assessor, a contract police officer and, more recently, round the clock rescue service. I have supported the implementation of these services and positions as I believe they have been of great value to the people of the town and the town itself with reasonable impact on the tax payers.
“During my tenure on the board, I have tried to be sensitive to the interests of the business community and those who have chosen to make the town of Arundel their home. If I am re-elected, I will continue to balance those interests in those instances when they are in conflict.
“In addition to serving on the Board of Selectmen, I am also a member of the Comprehensive Plan Update Committee, have assisted with the recent Charter Review Committee, participated as a coach of the boys’ basketball team through the Town’s recreation program and am involved in the school consolidation process. I believe that my participation in these other committees and activities allows me to gain perspectives and information that is of assistance in making policy decisions as a municipal official that are in the best interest of the entire Town.
“If re-elected, I will continue to participate in these other areas with particular reference to the school consolidation / regional school unit planning as it is anticipated that school consolidation will have huge consequences for the Town, both in the near and long term.”
