At the polls: Kennebunk Selectmen (June 6, 2008)

Patrick Gregorich
Candidate’s Statement:
“Hello. I’m Patrick Gregorich, and I am running for selectman in the town of Kennebunk on June 10. When I moved to Kennebunk years ago I knew I would never leave this wonderful community. This is a town with so much to offer those of us lucky enough to live here. I have benefited in many ways, and now it is time for me to give back to my community.
“I am ready to provide fresh ideas and innovative problem solving needed for Kennebunk to strike a balance between controlled spending and quality of life. As I step into the role of public servant, my agenda is simple.
“I will listen carefully to the citizens of Kennebunk and provide a balanced viewpoint.
“I am a business person who understandings  budgets, the need to invest, the importance of respecting individuals’ opinions and that planning for the future is essential to our town’s success.
“I also am an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy the many natural resources Maine and Kennebunk has to offer.
“If elected, I will work closely with the economic development committee to formulate strategies which entice new businesses to locate to Kennebunk while listening to and accommodating the needs of our existing businesses.
“I will work closely with the taxpayers of our town – business and residential – to figure out the best way to relieve our tax burden.
“I believe in the future of this community! And that we can all have a superior quality of life without giving up important services.I ask for your vote on June 10. Thank you!”

Robert Higgins
Candidate’s Statement:
“Having served as your selectman for the past three years I am asking for your support for another term. This past term I proposed, and the board of selectmen approved, three new committees. They are tree, cemetery and video. I serve on the cemetery and video committees.
“I have been the board’s elected representative on the county budget board for the past three years.
“I proposed a new ordinance for property tax assistance that was passed at last year’s Kennebunk annual Town Meeting. It provides property relief to those 62 years and older in need of help with taxes.
“We have all heard the term, ‘It’s the economy.’ We are hit with increasing costs for gas, heating oil, electricity and food.
“I would like a new committee to look into starting a co-op. I know there was one in the 1970s. With the cost of food, now is a good time to provide an alternative to those high prices.
“I have asked the town manager to look into the feasibility of a wind turbine in West Kennebunk at the fire station that could serve there and the Dorothy Stevens Center.
“I made suggestions that our chief of police look at more fuel efficient vehicles besides the Ford Crown Victoria’s we now have.
“I have done my utmost to work in your best interest no matter what the party affiliation, income or where you live. I have asked the questions that needed to be asked to bring about a more transparency in local government so taxpayers know where their tax dollars are going and how they are spent.
“I am asking for your vote on June 10 to continue to work on your behalf and together we can continue to make this town a great place to live and be a part of.  Thank you.”
