Letter: Repeal zoning by voting ‘yes’ (June 6, 2008)
Editor:
Information is circulating within the community suggesting that contract zoning is the only way that the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust can embark on restoration of a covered walkway at the Goat Island Lighthouse.
There are other ways to accommodate this construction and future maintenance at the lighthouse: a zone can (and probably should) be created for all the islands or even for this island in particular. Goat Island today is part of the Farm and Forest Zone, where topography and uses are quite different than on this seasonally-inhabited island owned and operated by a non-profit organization. I urge voters to repeal contract zoning by voting “yes” on Question 9.
