Letter: Sylvanus has my support (June 6, 2008)
Editor:
We have a new face running for school board. Matt Sylvanus has put his hat in the ring, and I applaud him for it.
Mr. Sylvanus has been steadily involved with the school board in the past year, before even having kids in the school system. He has attended nearly every school board meeting, and consolidation meeting for a year. It not only shows his dedication to doing what is right for our school and our children, but also has given him the experience to be able to hit the floor running when elected to the school board. He has a strong stance that it is Arundel’s job to do its best by our kids. He believes that it is our job to provide them with a positive and excellent education.
We must invest in our youth, and their education. As in any country, state, or town, their future depends on the children they raise. Our children are the future business owners, patrons, and parents of this community. If we are successful in providing them with an exceptional education and admirable opportunities, they will be the citizens who will come back and support our town in the future.
Mr. Sylvanus not only understands the importance of an excellent education, but also the importance of fiscal responsibility while working to achieve that goal. This is always a delicate balance in a small town. I believe that he would strive toward that sense of balance while still concentrating on doing what is best for the children of this community.
With the current economic climate, and the issues in the state government with schools, and consolidation, it is easy to get mired down and forget what is truly important – our children.
Matt Sylvanus has his mind set on doing what is best for the kids and the town of Arundel first and foremost, which to me, is what should always be the focus of our school board. If you are a supporter of our youth, and want the very best for them, I hope that you will come to the polls on June 10, and vote for Matt Sylvanus for school board.
