Letter: Legg pledges to work for all in district (Aug. 1, 2008)
Editor:
Thank you to the many members of the Kennebunk Democratic Party Town Committee who came out last week in the middle of awful weather to support their candidate to replace Chris Babbidge in District 141 of the Maine House of Representatives. Chris has served two outstanding terms as Kennebunk’s representative in the Legislature. We will miss his leadership, insight and positive work on our behalf. The energy and commitment demonstrated by Chris and by the Democratic Party here in Kennebunk and in York County is truly inspiring.
I am grateful and proud to accept the nomination as Kennebunk’s democratic candidate for House District 141. I pledge to represent all the people of this wonderful town as together we continue to build a healthy community. We will strive to achieve the highest standards of quality of life while maximizing educational and economic opportunities. We will uphold the principles of individual freedom and participatory democracy so vital to making our corner of America what it should be.
John Burrows and Kaitlyn Cunnigham, the other candidates for House District 141, ran as proud Democrats giving excellent presentations the night of the caucus. They helped all of us in attendance to focus on the crucial decisions which Maine’s leaders must face during the next two years.
Although there will not be a Republican Party candidate on the November ballot, I will be actively communicating and campaigning in many forums over the coming months. Such interaction between our legislators and the people in their districts is essential to responsive and honest government.
The November 2008 election is historic and exciting. I am personally and professionally honored to be directly involved in this campaign as the Democratic candidate for the Maine House of Representatives, District 141.
Ed Legg
