Letter: Lash out by writer not called for (Aug. 22, 2008)
Editor:
James Cressey’s great list of military/terrorist attacks on the U.S. is indeed informative and certainly many would agree that the U.S. is entitled to fight back. Unfortunately President Bush attacked Iraq and has spent billions of dollars fighting a country and a people that had nothing to do with a single one of the attacks cited in Mr. Cressey’s letter. To lash out at an easy target is morally and politically irresponsible. The worldwide goodwill that came so abundantly after 9/11 to the American people was squandered and lost by invading a country that had not attacked us and, was not (as history proved) a threat to the U.S. or to our allies. America gets it even if Mr. Cressey does not. It has judged Bush with historically low approval ratings and its punishment of his party in the ‘06 congressional elections.
