Letter: ‘Happy days are here again’? (Sept. 12, 2008)
Editor:
These are some of the things Obama promised me in his acceptance speech on Aug. 29.
1. I will end the war in Iraq and finish the fight against Al-Queda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
2. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts.
3. I will provide universal healthcare – affordable healthcare for every American.
4. I will renew tough diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
5. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century. These threats include terrorism, poverty, genocide, climate change and disease.
6. I will restore our moral standing.
7. I till tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean-coal technology and find ways to safely harness nuclear energy.
8. I will help auto companies retool so that fuel-efficient cars are built in America.
9. I will rewrite Bush’s tax code to restore fairness to working people and take away breaks for the wealthiest Americans.
10. I offer a grandiose vision of ending America’s dependence on Middle Eastern oil in a decade.
Now, I may have omitted some of his “guarantees,” so forgive me. And to think that this guy was raised by his grandmother!
Speaking for myself, I sure do look forward to “utopia,” if this chap is elected in November – a land of milk and honey!
In closing, may I say God bless all grandmothers and especially, please, may God bless America – she sure needs it!
