Letter: KRA cancels social, donates seed money (Oct. 17, 2008)
Editor:
The Executive Committee of the Kennebunkport Residents Association, in consideration of input from many of our KRA members, has decided to cancel the KRA Fall Social scheduled for November 9th at Pier 77.
Our reasons for doing so are rapidly deteriorating economic conditions and the substantial increases in utility and other costs that all of the residents of Kennebunkport are experiencing.
The KRA typically has subsidized the Fall Social. The Executive Committee, again with the support of many KRA members, has decided, in lieu of subsidizing the Fall Social, to donate $1,000 to the Kennebunkport Emergency Fuel Heating Assistance Program.
Those of us who have already mailed in our checks for the Fall Social can opt to receive a refund, or alternatively, can designate that those funds be added to the donation to the emergency fuel heating program. Please let me know how you’d like me to handle your checks.
I’ve talked to Kate Morency at Pier 77 and she has graciously agreed to our canceling of the Fall Social without our incurring any financial liability. She fully understands the negative financial pressures of today’s economy on our residents.
However, I do encourage any KRA members who might like to have dinner at Pier 77 about 6:30 pm on November 9th to plan to do so. Recognize that it will not be subsidized by the KRA, but it still should be great fun. Lisanne and I and many of our friends certainly plan to be there.
I, and the KRA Executive Committee, greatly appreciate your understanding and support of our decision.
With any luck, the economy will be in much better shape by this time next year. I certainly hope so!
David James
KRA Executive Committee
