When and where to vote (Oct. 24, 2008)
Voters in Arundel, Kennebunkport and Kennebunk will head to the polls Nov. 4 to address various issues ranging from the presidential election to local issues, such as the proposed plan to consolidate Arundel’s school district with Maine School Administrative District 71. Polls in each town vary as to times and locations, as do absentee voting times and availability.
Arundel
Arundel residents can vote between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Arundel Fire Station on Limerick Road. If residents need to register to vote, they can do so up to and including the day of the election with valid identification and proof of residency. To request an absentee ballot, residents should contact the town office between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Nov. 3 and absentee ballots must be returned by Nov. 3.
Kennebunkport
Polls will open in Kennebunkport at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. at the Village Fire Station on North Street. Absentee voting, voter registration and change of address or enrollment will be available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Village Fire Station; 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the town hall; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Village Fire Station and absentee ballots requested from the town clerk must be returned by Nov. 3.
The Kennebunkport Health Council is asking residents to bring nonperishable food items and toiletries along with them to the polls to “stuff the bus.” The Kennebunkport Parks and Recreation bus will be parked outside the Village Fire Station to fill with goods to provide to area shelters. There will also be a collection jar for those who want to make monetary donations.
Kennebunk
In Kennebunk, voters can cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the Edward C. Winston Auditorium inside town hall. While residents can register to vote the day of the election, the town is encouraging people to register prior to Nov. 4 in order to minimize the wait. The town clerks office will have extended hours from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 to facilitate early registrations.
Kennebunk Selectmen Chairman Wayne Berry said with four ballots, casting a vote could take approximately 15 minutes and encouraged residents to vote by absentee to minimize lines on election day. Absentee ballots are available upon request from the town clerk by calling 985-2102 ext. 1326 or visiting the office by Nov. 3. Two Saturdays for absentee voting have been scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 in the town clerk’s office.
Kennebunk town officials will also be visiting the Atria, Kennebunk Nursing Home, Ross Corner Woods, Huntington Common, Bradford on the Common and River Ridge between Oct. 21 and Oct. 24 to provide residents with a time to vote. Residents are encouraged to check specific times scheduled by each facility’s activities director.
