Could some clear-thinking student of political science explain to me why McCain truckled to the right-wing whackos via Sarah Palin?

They wouldn’t have voted for Obama anyway. And their presence disgusted those Hillary Clinton supporters who conceivably might have cast a ballot for the Arizona senator.
