Letter: Big thanks to neighbors (Nov. 21, 2008)

Editor:

A recent fire at our Prime Motors Nissan showroom facility on Route 1 has had little impact on our company’s operations, but it did remind me of why I chose the city of Saco when I decided to come out of retirement a little more than four years ago.

You never know when something like this is going to happen, but we’re very thankful that no one was seriously injured and I can’t express the level of my gratitude for the professionalism and responsiveness of the Saco Fire Department and all the other first responder agencies that assisted us during our time of need.

Over the last two weeks, I have been nothing short of amazed by the overwhelming support we have received from all over Maine.

I have always said there is something very special about living and working in southern Maine. No one wants to go through something like this, but the overwhelming support of the community, the professionalism of our area firefighters and the hundreds of well wishes we have received, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one can top this community’s spirit and commitment to its neighbors.

I would especially like to thank a volunteer firefighter who sprained his ankle when he entered the building. John Raby of Saco was treated and released at Southern Maine Medical Center and then spent the rest of his day volunteering as a track coach at Thornton Academy for a scheduled track meet.

This type of commitment and dedication to one’s community is incredible, but I know it is just one example of the many fine people who make this part of Maine so special.

We are truly surrounded by people who define the true spirit of community; and we remain committed to doing our part to make sure that we are as active and dedicated to this community as our neighbors. Thank you so very much,

Ira and Judy Rosenberg
