Great person nominations are due Monday (Nov. 28, 2008)
It’s that time of year again – a time for food, fun festivities – and The Post’s annual Great Person Award nominations.
And, we need help from our readers to tell us who has been influential in their lives. What person do you think helps make working and living in Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport so wonderful? Tell us and we’ll share it with them and our readers. You are the ones who determine who is eligible for the award – and ultimately who is honored with the award.
“There are no special qualifications for the Great Person Award,” Managing Editor Colleen Marshall said. “Its purpose is simply to honor those people who make this community a special place to live. It may be the person who hands you your morning coffee daily with a smile on their face. It may be the volunteer who works tirelessly for an area non-profit. It may be your seventh grade math teacher who spends that extra moment helping you, or that police officer who coaches your son’s basketball team. The award is meant to be a ‘Thank you!’ for all they do during the year.”
Nomination for the award is meant to be an honor in itself. However, the winner receives a plaque and is the subject of our Weekly Interview. They also are honored by knowing people appreciate them.
There are two steps in the Great Person Award process – nominations and then voting.
Now through 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, nominations will be accepted. A ballot of everyone nominated will then be printed in the Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 editions. Voting will end on Wednesday, Dec. 17 and the winner will be announced in the Dec. 26 edition. They will then be the subject of the first Weekly Interview of the year.
How can you nominate a Great Person? It’s simple:
• You can nominate a person by mail. Use the ballot on page 9 and please fill it out completely. We need to know the address and phone number of the nominee in case they win and we need to know your contact information in case we have questions (this information will not be printed).
•You can nominate a person electronically by emailing it to editor@kennebunkpost.com or faxing it to 282-4339.
• We also are happy to accept nominations at our office, located at 180 Main Street in Biddeford.
Be sure to include a few sentences on the reason for the nomination.
