Letters: Ice storm brings out the best in community members (Dec. 19, 2008)
Editor:
The recent ice storm reminded us how much we depend on the willingness of so many workers, paid and unpaid, to spend long days and nights so that we can enjoy the comforts that we take for granted – until they are lost.
To the Kennebunkport police who kept us safe, to the volunteer fireman who knocked on our door Saturday night to make sure rigor mortis hadn’t set in, to the public works crews who had to deal with roads full of fallen tree limbs and broken wires, to the CMP crews who restrung cables, replaced poles, and had to saw far too many branches, and to all our other dedicated public servants, we will never forget the incredible efforts that brought our town back on line more quickly than most of us dared hope.
Well done.

Saturday night when we were at our coldest, a pick-up drove up to our garage. Geoff Bowley and Derek Mosser of Bowley Builders, and Mark Lamontagne of Clark Electric then dropped the tailgate and proceeded to hook up a generator to our furnace. They let it run for two hours, and then another truck driven by Steve Bowley arrived and picked up the three guys to go to another home unannounced. These four men provided generator service to eight different homes. The spirit of Christmas at its best.
