Letter: Secret Santa’s success depends upon you (Jan. 9, 2009)

Editor:

Secret Santa has just completed its 21st year of providing Christmas gifts for local children whose families are experiencing financial distress. Thanks to the generous support of our community, we were able to give gifts to dozens of children in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel: toys for the little ones, music or clothes for the teens, warm coats and boots for all in need of them. In this time of uncertainty we are grateful that so many of you still found a way to help those less fortunate.

We strive to make Christmas wishes come true by fulfilling the specific request of each child. The need was great this year and the Secret Santa volunteers had much shopping to do. This would not be possible without the monetary gifts we receive. We are very thankful to all of you who so generously gave what you could to support our program. There are simply not enough hours, however, in the hectic holiday season for our small band of “elves” to purchase every gift. We extend special thanks to those of you who took the tags from our trees and sought out the requested gifts with as much care as if you were shopping for your own child.

The continuing success of our program depends entirely upon the goodwill and assistance of many individuals and businesses in our three towns, particularly the area banks and town offices whose staffs have facilitated the distribution of tags and collection of gifts through the years. We value your partnership.

At Secret Santa gifts are given anonymously and received confidentially. To all of you who contributed to this effort by donating your time, services, cash or gifts – and you know who you are – we at Secret Santa thank you so very much. We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and we wish you all a healthy and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Secret Santa
