Letter: Many members of community helped with outreach (Jan. 23, 2009)

Editor:

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Church Community Outreach Services, Inc., I would like to thank all those generous people in our community who supported our food pantry and fuel aid programs over the past year. Your donations, whether it was money or food, have made a huge difference in the lives of many people.

I would especially like to thank Dan Bowen, owner, and John Martin, manager, and all the employees at Garden Street Market for their unfailing support of our food pantry, produce pantry, school snack, and voucher programs over the years. This year’s “Fund the Feast” program alone resulted in 66 boxes of food for our food pantry.

I would also like to thank Manager Jim Schlander and the Stop N Shop Supermarket for their support. For the second year, our food pantry was the beneficiary of their “Food for Friends” drive in November. The money collected in this program was matched by the corporation, resulting in huge boost to both our flagging spirits and our reduced pocketbook.

There are many others who deserve our recognition, including the Cub Scout Packs of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport; the Kennebunk Elementary School; the Mildred L. Day School; Port Shoes: the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport; the Maine Art Gallery; and the families and friends of Ellie Regan, Katherine Kubiak, and Glenda Lovell.

We are especially grateful to the area churches and their congregations for their steadfast support.

And finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the individuals in the general public who consistently give of time and money to keep us going.

Beth Jones, Co-Chairman

Church Community Outreach Services, Inc.
