Letter: Whining about school funding should stop (May 22, 2009)

To all the whiners concerning the school budget:

Total for Iraq and Afghanistan war to date is $830.2 billion. How dare anyone want to cut education for my children and teachers’ jobs. Do you want to start warehousing children? I mean here you are talking about a town that wants to pave the streets with bricks that have the names of residents on them, and who wants to renovate downtown.

I found out that my pay is getting cut 5 percent but I’m glad to have a job. Kennebunk needs to do the same with all their workers if they aren’t doing something already. Raise the price of non-resident beach passes.

Why not charge a 25 percent tax on alcohol since you claim we are No. 1 in the state? That would be enough to cover all the school budget. Don’t spend $1 million on roundabouts.

Why are there 20 banks in Kennebunk – they’re certainly not lending any money. I see a brand new CVS being built – raise its taxes. Why not shut all the schools down and make a big indoor arena to hold all the kids that go to school from kindergarten through grade 12 and have just a handful of teachers. It’s bad enough there are 20-plus kids per class. No wonder parents who can are home-schooling. Kennebunk needs to take the whip cream off their cappuccino.
