Letter: Kennebunk seniors are a class act (June 5, 2009)
Editor:
On May 16th the Nonantum Resort had the honor to host the Kennebunk High School Prom for the second season in a row. It was a terrific event made possible by the efforts of Mrs. Keezer at the high school as well as other faculty and staff, too many to mention.
As a parent of a graduating senior I am especially grateful to the high school staff and their efforts to keep all of our children safe. Throughout the entire planning process “safety” was the top priority. I was relieved to wake up the following morning and realize the goal had been achieved.
I would also like to thank the students themselves for their polite and courteous attitude toward the staff. Parents should be proud of their kids for this one. At the end of the evening many of the students came up to say “thank you.” I was especially touched by Nick Cabral when he came up and asked “Mr. Ames, can we help you clean up?” That offer of help says so much about these kids. It won’t be forgotten by me. Thank you, Nick!
Another huge thank you goes out to Sperry Tents of Portsmouth for donating the tent that made it possible to keep the prom in the Kennebunks. This tent is valued in the thousands of dollars and was donated in full by Sperry. Not to mention the labor he donated by paying for his staff to set up and break down the tent. Lastly, thank you to The Candy Man in Dock Square for its generous donation of candy for the KHS candy bar that evening. They donated so much candy to the event that it took two of us to pick up the box and load it into my car. This made it possible for Richard Dowe to have his candy of choice, Skittles!
So in the end you might ask “was it a perfect prom?” The answer is “probably not.” But the objective of keeping them safe was met which is really all that we should hope for.
See many of you at graduation!
Timothy Ames
