Letter: Satisfying a need (June 12, 2009)

Editor:

On Saturday, May 9, the National Association of Letter Carriers conducted their annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. During their delivery of the mail, the postal carriers collected food donated by local residents and delivered it to Church Community Outreach Services, Inc., the food pantry that serves Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Arundel. This year they collected 3,013 pounds of food.

On behalf of the board of directors of Church Community Outreach Services, Inc., I would like to thank all those people who were involved in this very successful food drive. Thank you to all residents of Kennebunk for your generosity. Thank you to the dedicated mail carriers who collected, and then delivered, all the food. Thank you to board members, the Knights of Columbus, and teen and older volunteers for receiving, weighing, sorting, and shelving the donated food. And, finally, thank you to the Kennebunk Postmaster who organized the food drive and encouraged his staff’s participation.

The board of directors of the Church Community Outreach Services, Inc is comprised of volunteers representing nine churches in the Kennebunk and Kennebunkport area, as well as several at-large representatives from the community. Our primary purpose is to serve the emergency food needs and provide temporary fuel assistance to individuals and families in the towns of Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport. Without the support of the people of these communities, we would not be able to fulfill our purpose and we deeply appreciate their continued generosity over the years.

Beth Jones, Chairman

Church Community Outreach Services, Inc.
