Letter: Beautification a waste of money, regardless of source (July 3, 2009)

Editor:

[Regarding the letter, “Voters possibly confused about funding source,” June 26]

We, the voters, were not confused about the downtown revitalization project. We understood money was going to be spent and we agreed that the money was being spent unwisely. Using TIF funding would not make it alright to go ahead with this project. A waste of money is a waste of money, similar to Shakespeare’s “rose is a rose.” I believe  those who opposed the project opposed it on the grounds that it was in fact a waste of resources. The downtown area is not headed for ruin or decay. If there’s a need for a beautification project it should be in a place such as Milo, Maine. Take a walk down Main Street and point out where the area is headed for ruin and decay.
