Police: Fire chief had gun, expired permit during assault
Kennebunkport Fire Chief Paul Moshimer was carrying a concealed weapon without a permit when he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault Friday, Sept. 18, according to Wells police.
Lt. Jerry Congdon said officers arrested Moshimer around 10 p.m. outside the Burnt Mill Road home of Peter Dugovic.
Congdon said Moshimer allegedly struck Dugovic with his motorcycle helmet after he drove by the home, saw his fiance’s car in the driveway and confronted Dugovic.
Moshimer was taken to York County Jail in Alfred and freed on $1,000 cash bail by Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Congdon said Moshimer was carrying the .45 caliber pistol in his jacket, which he took off and handed to officers, telling them it contained a gun.
The permit for the gun expired in February 2009, according to Congdon.
Moshimer is expected in York County Superior Court in Alfred on Oct. 27. Town Manager Larry Mead said Moshimer will remain on paid administrative for an undetermined amount of time.
