Robert Phillips Hatch
Robert Phillips Hatch, M.D., age 83, retired obstetrician gynecologist, died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough Tuesday, December 8, 2009 following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 1, 1926, in Woodstock, Conn. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1954 to 1962, being discharged with the rank of Major. He graduated from Amherst College in 1950, and Yale University School of Medicine in 1954.
On September 13, 1952, he married Karolin M. Kihlander.
Dr. Hatch was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a fellow of ACOG, a member various medical societies and associations, and was a member of the Wentworth Douglass medical staff in Dover, N.H. He practiced in Dover from 1962 until 1984, where he was president of the Garrison Medical Professional Association.
After the death of his wife Karolin in 1992, he married Mary Louise Breckenridge Oaks, the widow of Dr. Donald Oaks of Dover, in 1996. They took up residence in Kennebunk in 1999, where they are members of Christ Church.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter and her husband, Louise and William J. Belanger, Jr. of Alfred, his son and his wife Douglas and Anita of Maryville, Tenn.; his son David of Tok, Alaska; his daughter Susan, widow of Alan Dupuis of Waterboro, eight grandchildren, Kristine (Donald) Candage, William Belanger, Leanne, Jennifer and Megan Dupuis, Adam, Emily, and Carter Hatch, and one sister, Sylvia (Mealand) of Cornwall, Pa. He is further survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Karolin, one brother, John, one sister, Dorothy (Davis), and an infant brother, David.
In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are encouraged to donate in Robert’s memory to: Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 Route 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel.
Alice Kibort
Alice Kibort died at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston on December 1, 2009 at the age of 69 following a battle with T-Cell Lymphoma.
She was born July 20, 1940 in New York where she graduated from The Mary Louis Academy and went on to attend Marymount Manhattan College.
She was a lifelong creative artist, applying her skills and inherent aesthetic knowledge in the areas of corporate graphic design, classical antiques, and later, in partnership with her husband, Charles, in a remarkable career in real estate and interior design.
Alice worked as a graphics designer and owned her own firm in New York City, Kibort Associate,s and later found success in freelance work while raising her two children.
Alice was a major presence at antique shows throughout the east coast. Major collectors and designers sought her inspiring advisement and talent. She was recognized for her eclectic tastes and unique discernment in quality vintage and antique objects as well as her gracious professionalism.
She had a great interest and specific expertise with antique textiles and showed at major events in New York, constantly self-educating and being a lifelong learner in her field. She and her husband owned antique and interior design showrooms in New York and Greenwich, Conn., including Suttonbridge Interiors and Design, which was internationally known as a resource in the trade. She lived in Greenwich, Conn. prior to moving to Palm Beach, Fla. in 2000.
Alice was an active member at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda by the Sea. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles of Palm Beach, Fla. and Kennebunk; her daughter Dr. Christie K. Vila of Key Biscayne, Fla.; and her son Charles A. Kibort III (Chip) of Scarborough and his wife, Laura Roy Kibort in addition to her beloved granddaughter, Sarah Marie Vila of Key Biscayne, Fla.
Alice Kibort was loved by so many dear friends and extended family. Her funeral service took place in Palm Beach, Fla.
Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street in Kennebunk.
