Letter: Secret Santa sends thanks (Printed Jan. 8, 2010)
To the editor:
Secret Santa has just completed its 22nd year of providing Christmas presents for local children whose families cannot afford to do so themselves. Thanks to the generous support of our community, we were able to give gifts to children in need in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel: warm clothing, winter boots, books and that very special item they’d been hoping for.
We strive to make Christmas wishes come true by fulfilling the specific request of each child, as described to us by their parent or guardian. This could not be done without the participation of so many caring people who take the tags from our trees and seek out those gifts with as much care as if they were shopping for their own child. The Secret Santa volunteers could not shop for the items on the unclaimed tags without the monetary gifts provided by our generous donors. Thank you all so very much.
The continuing success of our program also depends on donated funds and services from many businesses in our towns, particularly the area banks and town offices that have facilitated the distribution of tags and collection of gifts through the years. This year we also placed trees in the Kennebunk Free Library and Louis T. Graves Memorial Library; we thank their staffs and patrons for joining our effort.
At Secret Santa we give anonymously and receive confidentially. To all of you who made the season happier for others by donating your time, services, cash or gifts – and you know who you are – we at Secret Santa thank you. We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and we wish you a healthy and happy New Year!
