Letter: Support is appreciated (Printed Jan. 29, 2010)
To the editor:
On behalf of the board of directors of the Church Community Outreach Services, Inc., I would like to thank all those generous people in our community who supported our food and fuel aid programs during the past year. Your donations, whether it was money or food, have made a huge difference in the lives of many people. For the second year in a row, we have served more than 1,200 people in our food pantry program and spent thousands of dollars on fuel aid. Without community support, we could never begin to meet the need.
I would especially like to thank Dan Bowen, John Martin and all the employees at Garden Street Market for their cheerful support of our food pantry, produce pantry, school snack, and voucher programs over the years. I would also like to thank Downeast Energy for their help and support with our fuel aid program.
Residents of Kennebunkport deserve special recognition for their participation in the Stuff the Bus with Food on Election Day. This biannual collection of food loads our shelves at two critical times of the year. We are indebted to Judy Barrett and Carol Cook for all their efforts in organizing these events.
here are many others who deserve our recognition: local Cub Scout Packs, all area schools, Historic Inns of Kennebunkport, Maine Art Gallery, Kennebunk Portside Rotary, Good Cheer Club, Kennebunk Savings Bank’s community ballot and the Kennebunk Post Office’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
We are especially grateful to the area churches and their congregations for their steadfast support.
