Letter: Successful candidates’ night (Printed April 2, 2010)

To the editor:

We wish to thank everyone who attended the March 26 Democratic Gubernatorial candidates’ night and made it such a success.

More than 130 citizens came to Kennebunk Town Hall to hear Pat McGowan, Libby Mitchell, John Richardson, Steve Rowe and Rosa Scarcelli share their visions for serving as governor of Maine.

After speeches, the candidates entertained questions about taxation, help for small businesses, and plans for funding a new dental school. Other candidates for state and county office were also in attendance, including State Reps Alan Casavant, Gary Connor and Ed Legg, and State Sen. Nancy Sullivan.

A special thanks goes to the many dedicated volunteers: Eva Downs, Nancy Dorn, Joan Phipps, Suellen Goodman, David Shultz, Sarah Downs, Denise Stockburger, Roger Hansen, Dick Smith, Mike Weston, Adam Spey, Bruce and Nancy Chandler, Pixie Lown and others.

The evening provided the ideal opportunity to meet and learn about the candidates before the June 8 Democratic primary election and was democracy at its best.

Diane Denk, Kennebunk Democratic Town Committee and Peter Fellenz, Kennebunkport Democratic Town Committee chairman
