Letter: Don’t trample our rights (Printed May 14, 2010)
Goose Rocks beachfront owners believe everyone involved in the lawsuit would like to have an amicable resolution of the suit. The beachfront owners are asking that they receive the same recognition and protection of their private property rights, as do all private property owners in Kennebunkport. It is as simple as that.
We have gladly shared our beach property for many years, permitting walking and other compatible uses. We are not looking to change that tradition. However, because of the ever-increasing number of summer tourists, we are now asking the town to affirm and delineate the public and private sections of the beach and to protect our property rights.
To date, the town has refused to do so. When wooded lot owners, the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and many other property owners take actions to manage and protect their properties, their right to do so is never questioned. We only ask for what every property owner should be able to take for granted – that our deeds, which are legal documents – be respected.
If the town agrees to publicly acknowledge and protect our private property rights this suit can be resolved quickly and we can all enjoy the summer.

Dear Barbara:
I don't know how to say this in a nice way, so I'll just say it.
You're lying.
This lawsuit is about privilege, it is about exclusion, and it is about the kind of money-grubbing snobbery that is the antithesis of Goose Rocks Beach. It is not about "protecting your rights." You don't own the beach. You never will.

This lady is the one who called the Kennebunkport Police most frequently over the last few years to say people were sitting and stopping on "her beach". I doubt she has had a change of heart.
