Letter: Voters made right choice (Printed June 18, 2010)

To the editor:

My sincere thanks and appreciation to all who supported my successful efforts as a write-in candidate for Kennebunk Selectman. I am humbled you took the time to write my name. I look forward to joining Kevin Donovan as we join the rest of the board July 1 in service to the town.

At the same time I wish to thank Wayne Berry and Tom Wellman for their years of service to the town and for their sacrifice that kept them from their family and business. I will work hard to maintain the fine example that they both established. The bar has been set high.

When I join my new colleagues, I do so with keen awareness of the extraordinary times we face both financially and as a community. We face a potential loss of state and federal resources in a way that will test the status quo and community we all enjoy and work to support. To maintain our current service levels without significant increases in taxes or fees will take creativity, patience and communication.

I do not have all of the answers. I look to each of you to provide your input and feedback in whatever way you feel comfortable. I have the pleasure of both residing and working in Kennebunk, so, my office door is always open as are the phones and e-mail.

I imagine we may disagree on occasion. I hope we can disagree without being disagreeable. During the next three years we will have many opportunities to explore our differences and our similarities. Thank you for allowing me to serve and I hope you will not be disappointed.

Richard Morin
