As director of the Kennebunk Free Library I want to thank our patrons, residents and business sponsors for such overwhelming support of our library during our recent fundraising events.

The annual appeal, our largest fundraiser, ended June 30. We raised $55,270, which exceeded our goal by 10 percent.Without these donations, we could not provide the quality services, collections and facilities you have come to expect.

The Seaglass Chorale hosted a benefit concert June 6. Kennebunk Savings Bank and the Friends of the Library sponsored the concert and more than $500 was raised.

The 5K Road Race on July 9 was another fundraising success thanks to large number of participants, business sponsors and volunteers.

This year we registered 358 runners and walkers to race the downtown course, enjoy the food provided by Federal Jack’s and be entertained by Mousam River Rats on the Library lawn.

We also owe a huge thank you to the Kennebunk Police Department, Kennebunk Rescue and the West Kennebunk Fire Department volunteers for keeping the route safe for all our participants.
