Letter: Neighbors misguided about golf club plan (Printed Aug. 6, 2010)
As a PGA Professional and a former six-year employee of Cape Arundel Golf Club, I must completely defend the intentions of the golf club and its endeavors (“Abutters feel shut out in club’s expansion,” July 23).
I have conducted hundreds of lessons and dozens of junior golf camps on the property and have the privilege of knowing the land in question is not only important to the community, but the future of our children. The game of golf is about all of life’s lessons including honesty, integrity, camaraderie and a sense of community.
Regarding concerns of neighbors, the proposed plan will do nothing but enhance their experience around the property. The past three years have already seen a club membership embrace the facility.
An improved acreage will only enhance the property value around its neighbors and that should not to be dismissed. Not to be forgotten is that Cape Arundel Golf Club is a public golf club that has always made its policies in the best interest of the local community.
The golf course offers numerous junior and adult golf clinics promoted by both recreation programs of the Kennebunks throughout summer. The noise that will be produced is no different than road noise heard on the street abutters live and will be overcome by the laughter of children learning life’s lessons.
The abutters to the facility should learn more about what they are speaking of and what they should expect living near a golf course before they make naive accusations about the future.
Best wishes to Cape Arundel and all of their progress.
